What is Foamex? Foamex is a form of plastic which is made of expanded PVC foam sheet that is extremely resourceful and fabrication friendly. It is widely used in the manufacturing of sign boards, banners, scheme panels, hoardings, cut-outs, safety signs and other printing products.
Is Foamex the same as foam board?
What is Foamex board? Also known as PVC foam board – a slight anomaly considering there is not actual ‘foam’ present! It is a useful material because of its rigidity. It also comes in different thickness too from 3mm, 5mm, 10mm or 19mm.
How rigid is Foamex?
Foamex is rigid and dense, not soft and foamy as the name suggests! Because of its fine cell structure and smooth surface, it is an ideal material for the six colour digital printing process that uses eco-friendly UV inks.
How flexible is Foamex?
It’s too flimsy even to fix to slatted railings or fences. However, because it is quite flexible, it can easily be bent around a curve, and indeed, there are certain display stands that are designed to take a printed foamex graphic around a curve.
How durable is Foamex?
In addition, Foamex® is resistant to any wear and tear to which it may be subjected over time; even large panels do not become misshapen or shrink. In addition to its durability, its lightweight properties mean it is easy to transport and install. Foamex® is an easy material to work with.
Is Foamex board waterproof?
Can I use it outside? Yes, Foamex is Water Repellent / weatherproof and does not ingress moisture so it is ideal for external applications. It is warranted against UV fading for up to 7 years outdoors and 10 years indoors.

What is a Foamex sign?
Foamex Signs. Foamex (or Forex) signs are made from PVC foam and have a high quality smooth finish, which makes it perfect for advertising, ceiling signs, or wallcovering. Both are manufactured using the same process and contain similar chemical components. The two products also have the same insulating power. However, blue foam boards are manufactured by Dow Chemical Co. whereas the pink foam boards are manufactured by Owens Corning company.

Is foam board bendable?
The material needs to be cut half-way through in repeated parallel lines (as little as 2mm apart for a tight curve), making it more flexible. But the grooves only work for bending one way, so for example an ‘s’ curved wall has to be grooved in alternate positions on both sides for it to bend properly into an ‘s’.
Is PVC board the same as foam board?
Unlike a foam board, PVC boards are available in varying thicknesses and may be printed on either side. This type of board produces little glare because of the textured surface. Therefore signs remain clear. PVC boards are also versatile and can be cut in different sizes and shapes.
Foamex is 100% weatherproof, and is unaffected by changes in temperature, so it can used for outdoor applications. It also has an excellent fire rating, making it ideal for indoor use as well.
Can you cut Foamex?
Foamex is really soft, so for drilling it’s pretty easy. Drilling holes in Foamex is really easy, and you can also cut Foamex with a Stanley knife. So just scoring the edge of the Foamex with a Stanley Knife, nice and gently, and then going across the same line again.
