What can a map show you?
Maps present information about the world in a simple, visual way. They teach about the world by showing sizes and shapes of countries, locations of features, and distances between places. Maps can show distributions of things over Earth, such as settlement patterns.

What should be included in a skills map?
A skills map needs to show skills both qualitatively and quantitatively. In other words, it should show what skills are needed for a given role and how far along the required skill progression for any given person is. Skill levels generally range from nonexistent or complete beginner to advanced or expert. Be careful to be objective.
What do you need to know about mapping?
Use of colour can increase the understanding of maps. Be sure NOT to use the colour BLUE on land – only on water. Labels on maps must be printed, horizontal, consistent size and straight. The size, boldness and font of letters may vary to show importance. Larger cities are labeled with larger letters.

The scale of a map allows a reader to calculate the size, height and dimensions of the features shown on the map, as well as distances between different points. The scale on a map is the ratio between real life sizes and how many times it has been shrunk to fit it on the map.
