Set amongst the dramatic peaks of the Mont Blanc mountain range. The traditional alpine town of Chamonix, still maintains much of its rustic charm with its splendid old buildings and alpine farms. It has a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere that is both appealing and charismatic.
The resort boasts one of Europe’s highest cable cars, offering spectacular views over the valley and surrounding area. Its excellent snow record ensures good conditions until late in the season.
The streets of Chamonix are a colourful mix of sport and high fashion shops, restaurants, cafés and bars. Every Saturday the town hosts an outdoor market brimming with local crafts and produce. The town has a lively après ski scene and excellent nightlife.
The town’s square is the heart of the resort and starting point to experience what Chamonix has to offer. Its cobbled streets are alive with a colourful mix of characters who lend to the general ambience and feel of this town. This is an ideal destination for weekenders or those wanting a short break from everyday reality.
The domain offers a huge variety of skiing possibilities that can be accessed by a cable car or gondola from the village. The resort is especially well suited for intermediate and advanced skiers, and has some of the best off-piste skiing in the world. Skiing the Vallee Blanche is an unforgettable experience and although not to be missed, is not for the faint-hearted.
Although the town is rather large and sprawling, there is an efficient bus system that serves the area.
For those who prefer not to ski. The resort has many alternative ways to spend your time, including marked winter hiking and snowshoe trails, ice climbing, ice-skating, indoor wall climbing and paragliding. The lifts and cog railway also give access to exceptional viewpoints and mountain restaurants.
Alternatively, why not try ski Joering, a great activity for the young and young at heart, mixing skiing and equestrianism in perfect harmony. Nature lovers will really enjoy this ‘revived’ ancient sport (documented in Norway in 2500BC).
