The resort of Tignes offers excellent access to some of the largest and most challenging skiing in the Alps through its connection with Espace Killy and Val d’Isère. Although lacking alpine charm, it is a good value for money option with superb convenience with many of the properties offering doorstep skiing.

Its high altitude, way above the tree line, gives the resort a somewhat stark appearance. However, its excellent snow record and easy access to glacier skiing more than compensates and offers an ideal option for an early or late season ski holiday.

The resort is made up of the three main areas of Val Claret, Le Lac and Lavachet, each with their own area offering a good selection of bars and restaurants to suit all taste buds and budgets.

There is a free 24-hour bus service that runs throughout the resort to ensure you that you will eventually arrive back at your hotel room.

Tignes has a fast and efficient lift system that includes free lifts for beginners, a wide choice of runs for all levels, including the option of skiing over to Val d’Isère. There are several mountain restaurants offering a mix of dining options, including ‘Le Panoramic’ a gourmet restaurant serving Savoy specialities, accessible by the funicular railway from Val Claret.

It has an interesting mix of off-mountain activities include ski-joring (being pulled along by horses), helicopter trips, paragliding, husky rides, ice driving and snow shoe walking.
