Kitzbuhel is a picturesque, Tyrolean walled town. It is the home of the Hahnenkamm world cup ski races, including the circuit’s most prestigious event, the downhill race on the famous Streif slope.   The resort attracts an international clientele and has a mix of interesting characters that frequent its cobbled streets and cafés.

Kitzbuhel has a very attractive skiing area, with a delightful mixture of woodlands and open upper pistes with wonderful views.

This 13th century town has a largely car-free, medieval centre that has retained its classic alpine village decor of beautifully painted buildings and traditional architecture and has a good choice of smart shops, delicatessens, and Konditories

The best location for accommodation is either in the old pedestrian centre, certainly the most attractive place to stay, or close to either of the main lifts. If you are keen to visit Kitzbuhel during the Hahnenkamm be prepared to book a year in advance!

The town has a varied choice of restaurants from fine dining to traditional specialities.  It has a vibrant après-ski, there is something to suit all tastes from lively bars to sophisticated nightspots and champagne bars.

The lift system has been greatly improved and is ongoing which has increased the accessibility to the entire mountain area.  Since the resort has introduced artificial snow making, it is usually possible to ski back down to the edge of the town.

Kitzbuhel lies in a snow pocket, which means that good snow conditions prevail throughout the winter especially on the higher slopes. The resort is not ideal for beginners; however it is considered perfect for intermediates that are looking to improve and has some challenging runs for experts and first class off piste opportunities with a guide.

A variety of good mountain restaurants await you, ranging from a basic hut serving traditional snacks, to fine dining.

Off-mountain entertainment includes snow polo and ice hockey.  There is also a casino and museum and excursions to the nearby cities of Salzburg and Innsbruck are easy as the railway station is in the centre of town.
