Situated in the Oeztal valley Sölden was relatively unknown to the British market.
However with scenes from the James Bond Film Spectre being shot here in 2014/15 it has certainly raised the profile of the resort.

The village itself is rather sprawling with a busy main road running through, which gives it more of a town feel opposed to a charming Tyrolean Village.

This Alpine Ski World Cup venue however does tick many boxes; it has excellent snow reliability on two glaciers allowing it to stay open from October to May; an extensive network of slopes with an equally impressive lift system.

Sölden’s terrain spans two glaciers (Rettenbach and Tiefenbach) and three well-connected mountains offering varied skiing for all levels. The ski area is particularly well suited to confident intermediates and advanced skiers. Beginners will find gentle runs at Innerwald and Giggijoch while intermediates have varied blue and red pistes throughout the ski area. From the Gaislachkogl (3058m) there are more challenging slopes as well as plentiful of off-piste opportunities.

There are numerous mountain huts scattered across the mountain where you enjoy a well-earned break or even a leisurely lunch where you can sample some typical hearty Tyrolean fare.

Although Solden is fast becoming renowned as a party town with a buzzing après and nightlife scene which attracts a lively crowd, if this is not for you there is always a quiet bolt hole to be found.

Off mountain activities Solden has a number of non-ski alternatives on offer, including cross country skiing, paragliding, sledging, and ice skating. In town, the Freizeit Aqua Center offers an indoor pool, sauna, cinema, tennis, bowling, shooting range. Or take the opportunity to test drive the new BMWs on the high alpine ice driving course.
