Flachau

Flachau is a pretty, working farming village, set in beautiful alpine meadows within an extensive three-valley lift network. Its unique eastern location means that despite its low altitude the resort has an excellent snow record from pre-Christmas through until middle March. Perfect for beginners and intermediates and for those wishing to build their confidence. The resort is a 45-minute transfer from Salzburg airport making it an ideal destination for short breaks.

The resort is connected to Hermann Maier, a former alpine ski racer who ranks among the finest alpine ski racers in history and is well known as a venue of numerous world cup ski events.

The scenery is stunning. It’s wide open meadows are dotted with traditional buildings and its stunning open panorama offers uninterrupted views across the Ski Amade region. The main street wanders along the entire length of the village with some charming cafés to stop and drink a glühwein or hot chocolate.

Flachau has invested heavily in state of the art technology and boasts one of the best lift systems in the whole of Europe. This, together with the most modern of snow making facilities, allows guaranteed snow, even late in the season. From the village there are several ways of connecting onto the mountain.

This resort is ideal for beginners and intermediates with its wide, perfectly prepared and delightfully uncrowded pistes, and there are plenty of runs between the trees providing interesting skiing in bad weather, although advanced skiers would find the skiing limiting.

It is a perfect choice for individuals and families and, as there are six competing ski schools, classes are not overcrowded, even at peak dates.

Nightlife is plentiful and has something to suit all, whether it is a traditional bar with live music or more sophisticated cocktail bar, there are plenty of opportunities to party well into the night.

Non-skiers are also well catered for, as the historic city of Salzburg is only one hour away, also making Flachau the perfect destination for short breaks. Closer to the village is the charming resort of Altenmarkt, a 20-minute bus ride, with a variety of shops and cafés. Activities within the resort include sleigh rides, toboggan runs, snow biking, tubing and snow shoeing, and floodlit skiing.
