Andermatt

Shhh don’t tell anybody… (but not for long!)

Andermatt sits at the base the Urseren Valley, known far beyond Switzerland for its dramatic mountain landscape, deep canyons and spectacular scenery.

The village is steeped in Alpine history, with its location between three mountain passes. The village itself lies at 1,444m, with snow sure terrain across two mountains – Nätschen and Gemsstock (top station 2,963m), and an easy 20-minute scenic train ride away, the red runs of Sedrun on the Oberalppass are well worth the trip. Andermatt offers 86km of amazing and uncrowded slopes.

The old part of town still retains the charm of a traditional alpine village with the Unteralpreuss River running though the pretty town centre. You can simply stroll through the uncrowded streets or stop at one of the many bars to enjoy a glass of delicious Swiss wine or a warming hot chocolate and just people watch. Sample some local delicacies in one of the many traditional cosy restaurants.

Now thanks to the recent opening of the super luxurious 5 star Chedi Andermatt a brand new area is being developed.

This is set to really put Andermatt on the map as a luxurious resort whilst still retaining its Swiss charm and character that makes it so attractive.

The ski area is split into two main mountains, one offering great piste skiing whilst the other has some incredible off piste opportunities to explore for the adventurous skier (we highly recommend a guide).

The development plans include updating the ski area infrastructure with a six-seater covered chairlift, which will connect Gurschen and Gurschengrat on Mount Gemsstock which will open for the coming winter season. Within the next 3 to 4 years, 14 lifts, new slopes and restaurants will be constructed in order to merge the Andermatt and Sedrun ski areas.

Those who think they don’t know this idyllic region may be surprised to learn Andermatt served as the stunning backdrop to James Bond in Gold Finger and that the famous Glacier-Express railway connects Zermatt and St. Moritz boards and disembarks in Andermatt.

Andermatt is a great resort to choose for a short ski break being just a short easy transfer from the airport.

Off-mountain activities include; snow shoeing, sleigh rides and walking & hiking trails, tobogganing and an open air ice rink.
